Bato dela Rosa on the next PNP chief: ‘He should have balls’
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Thursday said the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief should have the balls to combat crime, illegal drugs, and terrorism.
Currently, Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. is the officer-in-charge of the PNP since no one has so far been selected to assume the PNP chief post under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“Kung papalitan man or magpapatuloy man itong nakaupo ngayong chief [sa] PNP, sana may bayag,” dela Rosa said in an ambush interview on the sidelines of the 28th Defense and Sporting Arms Show in Mandaluyong City. “Dapat may bayag iyong nakaupong PNP chief para labanan ang problema sa droga, kriminalidad, at terorismo.”
(Whether the current PNP chief is replaced or retained, I just hope he has the balls. The PNP chief should have the balls to fight problems on drugs, crime, and terrorism.)
Asked about his comment on Dela Rosa’s remark, Danao said: “Wala naman po sigurong babae sa mga candidate. Lahat siguro may bayag. Lahat naman qualified.”
(I don’t think there’s a woman among the candidates. All of them have balls. All of them are qualified.)
“We will leave it up to the new administration, the new President to choose kung sino ang kanyang trust and confident (sic) na maging chief [sa] PNP (whoever he confidently trusts to be the PNP chief),” he added.
