If uptick continues, COVID-19 cases may hit 1,200 daily by end-June — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 cases in the country could reach up to 1,200 daily by the end of June if the number of infections continue to increase, Health Undersecretary and spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said Saturday.

Vergeire said an average of 350 new cases per day were logged in the Philippines this week. The number of cases rose by 50 to 60 percent, said Vergeire.

“Ang mayroon tayo ay projections na by the end of June, maari na aabot tayo ng 800 to 1,200 cases per day kung magtuloy-tuloy pa ang mga kaso natin sa ngayon,” Vergeire said at the Laging Handa briefing.

“These projections naman are not cast in stone. Gusto lang natin makapag-prepare na ang ating mga ospital, mga local government so that we can prevent further transmission,” she added.

Vergeire urges the public to follow the minimum health standards and to get vaccinated.

“The key for us to prevent this from happening is sumunod tayo lahat sa minimum public health standards. Kapag may sakit tayo, isolate at once. At kailangan magpabakuna na tayo,” Vergeire reminded.
