3 dead, 5 hurt after truck hits tricycle in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY — At least three persons died while five others were injured after a dump truck hit a tricycle in Clarin town, Bohol on Sunday morning, May 29.

Joelito Torremocha Avenido, Maximo Avenido Yolego, and Shirly Torrefiel Abesia were on board a tricycle when a dump truck plowed their vehicle in a junction in Barangay Bacani in Clarin town at past 10 a.m.

Police Staff Sergeant Reno Cruz, case investigator of the Clarin Police Station, said the truck was on its way to Clarin town from Sagbayan when it first hit a Pajero vehicle and subsequently hit the tricycle with seven persons onboard.

Dump truck driver Saturnino Tirol Jr, a resident of Inabanga town, told investigators he lost control of the truck after its brakes malfunctioned.

Four injured passengers and the driver of the tricycle were rescued by responders.

They were David Dapit, 9; Cleofe Secretaria Avenido, 53; Melodina Torrefiel, 55; and Dioscoro Torrefiel, 53 — all residents of Mahanay Island in Talibon town. The tricycle driver was identified as Arvin Yana Sucubos.

They were brought to the Clarin Community Hospital for treatment while Tirol was detained at the Clarin police station.
