PH logs 195 new COVID-19 infections — DOH
MANILA, Philippines — An additional 195 new infections of COVID-19 were added to the country’s total caseload on Thursday, with active cases down further to 2,139, as shown in the Department of Health (DOH) COVID-19 tracker.
These new infections are much higher compared to the number of cases recorded on Wednesday, May 18, which was 103.
It is also higher than the average cases recorded the previous week from May 9 to 15 at 160 cases per day, or a total of 1,118 infections.
With this, the total number of confirmed infections now sits at 3,688,295 nationwide, with 3,625,704 recoveries and 60,452 deaths.
A total of 22,677 individuals, meanwhile, were tested on Wednesday, May 18.
Experts previously warned that COVID-19 infections may surge by May due to neglected health standards.

Apart from this, the DOH earlier said that it had already detected a local transmission of Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1 — estimated to be around 20 percent more infectious than the BA.2.
