SEA Games: Jocel Ninobla delivers PH’s first taekwondo gold in poomsae
MANILA, Philippines — Jocel Lyn Ninobla retained her golden crown in the women’s individual poomsae of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Monday at Tay Ho Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Ninobla delivered the country’s first gold in Taekwondo as she topped the poomsae contest with the best score of 7.765, beating Vietnam’s Tran Kim Uyen Le, who settled for silver with 7.649 points.
It was Ninobla’s second straight gold after ruling the 2019 SEA Games at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex with a score of 8.433.
Thai Ornawee Srisahakit and Malaysian Nurul Hidayah Abdul shared the bronze medal after ending up with tied scores of 7.482.
Meanwhile, the Philippines also captured two silver medals in the mixed freestyle and men’s team poomsae.
Janna Oliva, Juvenile Crisostomo, Justin Kobe Macario, Darius Venerable and Jeordan Dominguez garnered a score of 7.366 in the mixed freestyle poomsae for the silver medal, falling short to Vietnam, which topped the contest with 7.791 points. Laos got the bronze with 6.233 points.
Patrick King Perez, Raphael Enrico Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. placed second in the men’s team event with 7.732 points as Vietnam barely edged the Philippines for the gold medal with 7.782 points.
Indonesia (7.466) and Singapore (7.349) shared the bronze medal.
