Cubs Ian Happ and Justin Steele use team’s day off to get engaged to their girlfriends

The Chicago Cubs have lost nine of their past 12 games and are 9-13 on the season, third in the NL Central. The Cubs sit at No. 23 in ESPN’s power rankings, and ESPN’s David Schoenfield has given them a D grade for their first month of the season.

Ah, but love conquers all.

While there were not a lot of wins to be found in Chicago’s recent six-game road trip against the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers, romance must have definitely been in the air. Ian Happ and Justin Steele announced their engagements on the team’s day off before a five-game homestand against the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Happ, the Cubs’ center fielder, in his fifth season with the team, proposed to his girlfriend, Julie Mazur.

“The best is yet to come,” Happ, who is batting .303 with 11 RBIs, wrote on Instagram.

Steele is a relief pitcher in his second season in the majors. He followed Happ, proposing to his girlfriend, Libby Murphy, on a bridge overlooking the Chicago River.
