Over 10,000 cops deployed for poll security tasks in Bicol

LIGAO CITY—More than 10,000 policemen had been deployed to six provinces in the Bicol Region for election duty on May 9.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, regional police spokesperson, said Brig. Gen. Mario Reyes, regional police chief, ordered policemen to stay on guard at all times and ensure zero election-related incidents, presumably violence.

Calubaquib said two policemen would be assigned per polling precinct in the entire region.

She said Reyes also led the signing of a peace covenant among candidates at the regional police headquarters.

According to Calubaquib, police also activated provincial monitoring action centers for quick response to any untoward incident.

“As election day draws nearer we intensify the checkpoints, police visibility by foot and mobile patrol in order to have a smooth, safe and peaceful polls in Bicol region,” Calubaquib said.
