Expect cloudy skies, rain in parts of PH due to ‘amihan,’ shear line — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and rain should be expected over several parts of the country on Friday due to the shear line and northeast monsoon, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Pagasa senior weather specialist Robert Badrina, the shear line will bring cloudy skies and rain over Eastern Luzon — specifically Quezon Province, Bicol Region and Aurora — as well as the region of Mimaropa.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as the amihan, will likewise bring the same weather conditions to parts of Northern Luzon, specifically Batanes and the Cagayan Valley.

“Sa nalalabing bahagi po ng Luzon ay inaasahan po natin ang mga pulo pulong pagulan pagkidlat at pagkulog pero generally po maaliwalas ang panahon kasama na ang Western Luzon, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Kamaynilaan at ilang bahagi ng Calabarzon,” said Badrina.

(In the rest of Luzon we expect isolated rain, lightning and thunder but generally clear weather including Western Luzon, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Manila and some parts of Calabarzon.)

The shear line will also bring rain over Eastern Visayas as well as the Caraga region in Mindanao, said Badrina, while the remaining areas of the two major islands will experience fairer weather conditions with chances of isolated light rains.

Meanwhile, the LPA being monitored by Pagasa in the past few days is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility, last spotted 150  kilometers southeast of Pagasa Island, Palawan.

Temperature range in key cities/areas according to Pagasa for Friday:

Metro Manila: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius

Baguio City: 15 to 24 degrees Celsius

Laoag City:  24 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tuguegarao: 21 to 29 degrees Celsius

Legazpi City: 24 to 29 degrees Celsius

Puerto Princesa City: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius

Tagaytay: 23 to 29 degrees Celsius

Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius

Iloilo City: 24 to 30 degrees Celsius

Cebu: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius

Tacloban City: 24 to 28 degrees Celsius

Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius

Zamboanga City: 26 to 30 degrees Celsius

Davao City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Due to effects of “amihan,” a gale warning is still raised in the coasts of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and the northern coast of Ilocos Norte.

Rough to very rough sea conditions should be expected in the said areas, said Badrina.
