Magnitude 5.3 quake hits Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake struck 84 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental at 2:15 p.m.

It has a depth of focus of 101 kilometers, Phivolcs said.

Intensity III was felt in General Santos City and Kiamba, Sarangani.

Davao City, meanwhile, experienced Intensity I.

According to Phivolcs, damages are not expected but aftershocks may occur.

On February 21, Davao Occidental was jolted by two earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.7 and 5.2.
