Baguio flower fest to resume in March, after 2-year hiatus
BAGUIO CITY––The Baguio Flower Festival is being staged again in March after two years since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced Monday, Feb 21.
But the summer capital’s biggest crowd-drawing event will not hold the colorful street dancing parade of costumed children and the elaborate float parade, given ongoing restrictions on large gatherings.
Magalong said activities like the landscaping competition (scheduled March 6, the opening day); painting and kite-flying events at Burnham Park (March 13); and the street bazaar, Session Road in Bloom (March 21) would make up for its low-key revival.
“Handa na and Baguio (Baguio is ready) to offer the richness of our culture and traditions… and our environmental wealth,” Magalong said.
He said the city’s workforce and volunteers helped bring down infections and manage treatment for patients during the two-year pandemic.
Baguio hospitals are now treating 334 patients out of 41,302 cases since 2020.
