PBA: TNT snaps 2-game skid, turns back San Miguel

MANILA, Philippines—It took a bit of time but TNT managed to catch its rhythm late in the game to subdue San Miguel, 96-81, and snap its two-game skid in the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Tropang Giga improved to a 3-4 record while the Beermen, who carried a three-game winning streak to the match, slipped to 3-3.

Trudging through a low-scoring affair with the two teams tie at 58-all three minutes left into the third, TNT broke away outscoring the Beermen 38-23 until the final whistle.

Mikey Williams went on a personal 11-3 run to give TNT a commanding 96-78 lead with 1:04 left in the game effectively putting the game to bed.

Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes said it was his team’s defense on June Mar Fajardo and Orlando Johnson that allowed Williams to go off in the fourth.

“Mikey did his job in the fourth but I think it’s the work of our big men containing June Mar and Ryan’s [Reyes] defense on Orlando that allowed Mikey to get his offense,” said Reyes.

Williams finished with a game-high 30 points, 22 in the fourth, on 7-of-15 shooting from deep while Aaron Fuller added 22 points and 26 rebounds for TNT.

June Mar Fajardo led San Miguel with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Johnson was limited to 12 points on a dry 3-of-22 shooting.
