Around 20,000 Robredo supporters to gather in QC Circle for ‘Pink Sunday’

MANILA, Philippines — Around 20,000 supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo are expected to gather at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) on Sunday to hold a “People’s Proclamation Rally” for her presidential bid, a group called Kyusi 4 Leni Movement said Saturday.

Dubbed as “Pink Sunday,” the event is expected to draw Robredo’s supporters from different sectors and civil society organizations in Metro Manila and from nearby provinces.

Among the groups leading the event is the Kyusi 4 Leni Movement.

“For those who had enough of corruption and aspire for good governance where genuine peoples’ participation is truly valued, we invite you to join us in the Prayer Rally for the Proclamation of Vice President Leni Robredo’s Campaign for Presidency,” the group’s lead convenor Taddy Palma said in a statement.

“Impertinence towards our democratic institutions has been happening for too long since the start of this current regime. Our basic rights are continuously disrespected, our voices are never really heard, and our only hope to end this and reclaim good governance is Vice President Leni Robredo,” he added.

Palma said that only Robredo “has a clear and consistent record of serving the people even before she held her first public office, and has shown true leadership during this pandemic.”

The group said they will ensure that all participants are fully vaccinated and that minimum public health standards will be strictly observed throughout the event.

The group also said that similar events for Robredo’s candidacy will simultaneously take place in other parts of the country and that virtual events will be broadcasted online.
