4-year-old boy saved from drowning in Southern Leyte
ORMOC CITY — A four-year-old boy who fell into the sea while playing with friends escaped death after he was saved by a soldier in Barangay Magallanes, Limasawa town in Southern Leyte on Feb. 3.
Elmer Charles Costan survived after the “heroic” act of Private First Class (PFC) Ronald Cajes.
Cajes, who was detailed at the port, heard Costan’s playmates shout for help and immediately took off his service firearms and bullets and jumped into the seawater to rescue the boy.
Lt. Col Ernesto Dela Rosa, commander of the 14th Infantry Battalion, described Cajes as an “accidental hero” because of his immediate action that saved the boy.
