Thin crowd marks 34th People Power anniversary

A thin crowd gathered on Tuesday at the People Power monument along EDSA to mark the 34th anniversary of the peaceful revolution that ended the rule of president Ferdinand Marcos.
Around 1,000 participants attended this year’s commemoration, the police said.
National Capital Region Police Office Chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas said there were fewer participants this year.
Sinas said the program lasted only 12 minutes.
“Mas maganda na ‘to, mas mabilis, at solemn. At saka hindi masyadong nakadistorbo sa traffic (This is better, faster, and solemn. Also, it did not cause traffic jams,” Sinas said.
The Metro police chief said there was no group mobilization this year unlike celebrations the celebrations in the past.
The flag raising and wreath-laying ceremonies were led by Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and EDSA People Power Commissioner Joey Concepcion.
Representatives from the military, civil society, and various religious groups joined the celebration.
This year’s theme is “EDSA 2020: Kapayapaan ng Bayan, Simbulo ng Kalayaang lpinaglaban.” FRANZ LEWIN EMBUDO
