A Castlegar tomcat that took on a Castlegar bobcat is being saluted for his outsized bravery, as well as treated for his extensive injuries.
The eight-year-old stray, named Cupid — because he is a lover not a fighter, recent events notwithstanding — likely lost his eye in the mismatch.
But not his life. The wild cat’s catfight with the wildcat was witnessed by a passerby, who quickly alerted the B.C. SPCA’s West Kootenay Branch.
Cupid the cat is recovering from a fight with a bobcat.
He was rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic and treated for multiple bites to the head, causing abscesses and severe damage to his eye.
The cat was well-known to people in his neighbourhood, and the SPCA is hopeful that the loveable cat can find a bobcat-free forever home once he recovers.
For now, however, Cupid has bills to pay. The animal welfare organization is seeking donations to defray the bruiser’s medical costs, estimated at $2,000.
