BACOLOD CITY: The shooting of a police officer in Bacolod City last Saturday will adversely affect the image of Negros Occidental, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday.
“Definitely it will affect the image of the province especially Bacolod City,” Lacson said.
Four unidentified suspects shot dead Pat. Eric Alcosaba in front of a fast food restaurant along Burgos-Circumferential Road in Barangay Villamonte.
Alcoseba was previously assigned at Police Station 7 in Bacolod City before he was sent to Mindanao. He was linked to illegal drugs as companion of Ricky Sereño, allegedly a drug bagman.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim was about to board his Toyota Hilux after buying food. He jumped off his car, but he was shot at close range. The shooting was posted on social media and went viral.
The suspects fled on board a white Toyota Innova. Investigators recovered 19 empty shells.
“If you are the chief of police you cannot just say it is under investigation because many incidents like this have happened before but there was never a conclusion as to who were responsible,” Lacson said.
“The people of Negros expect more now than the usual reply,” he added.
Bacolod City officials have condemned the incident and called on the city police to solve the killings and arrest the suspects.
The murder of Alcoceba, the third this year, adds to the growing list of broad daylight killings in the city.
