Homicide detectives have said a man shot last Friday at a mall parking lot in Langley has died.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Thursday that 42-year-old Ravinder Singh Sandhu was found shot inside his vehicle with his two young children in the backseat around 9:30 p.m at the Langley Crossing Shopping Centre at 6339-200 Street.

Cpl. Holly Largy said Sandhu was in “grave condition” was first responders arrived. He has since died in hospital from his injuries.

Just moments before the shooting, Sandhu and his two children were part of a celebration at the Chuck E. Cheese family restaurant located inside the shopping centre.

“They were in the backseat and would have saw everything,” IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang said of the children.

IHIT says Sandhu was known to police and his murder is believed to be a targeted incident.

He is associated with the United Nations gang, according to a blog post by Postmedia reporter Kim Bolan.

“We share the community’s concern over this shooting in a public place that left one man dead and placed other lives at risk,” said Jang.  “We also share the community’s fervor to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice and call on anyone who can help us do so to come forward.”

IHIT is looking to speak with any witnesses who have yet to come forward and requesting dash cam video from anyone who was travelling in and around the area, before and after the shooting.

“The level of risk to the community is unacceptable and it is extremely concerning for me, as it must be for Langley residents, that this happened again outside a busy restaurant with young kids nearby,” said Langley RCMP Supt. Murray Power.
