Only 1 person being probed in hospital for COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY –– The number of persons admitted to hospitals for symptoms similar to those of COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas is down to one.
Dr. Minerva Molon, director of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas, said the remaining case involved a 25-year-old woman from Samar province who worked in Jiangsu, China.
The patient arrived in the country for a vacation on Jan. 30 but was confined on Feb. 11 after experiencing sore throat, cough, and colds.
Molon said she hoped the swab samples taken from the woman would turn out to be negative.
At least 15 patients under investigation (PUIs) in the region have been discharged from hospital confinement.
All the swab samples taken from the 15 PUIs, two of them American nationals, were negative.
“This is good news but we are not letting our guards down. We will continue to monitor,” she said.
She urged the public to always observe personal hygiene, like frequent hand washing and proper cough etiquette, to stop the spread of COVID-19.
“I am calling the people of Eastern Visayas to cooperate. In such trying times, we should not let our fears overwhelm us. We need to work together,” Molon said.
