Ride-hailing service Lyft announced Monday that it is expanding its operating region to include all of the city of Vancouver, Richmond, New Westminster and North Surrey.
Lyft, which began operations last month after receiving approval from B.C.’s Passenger Transportation Board, initially operated in a limited area that included parts of Vancouver and the airport.
“Drivers have told us they love driving with Lyft and would like to start driving closer to where they live. We know that nearly 80 per cent of the people who drive with Lyft live outside of the city of Vancouver, so we’re thrilled to be announcing this expansion,” said Peter Lukomskyj, Lyft’s general Manager in B.C.
Lukomskyj added the company hopes to soon be serving the full region of Metro Vancouver.
Uber, Lyft’s main ride-hailing competitor, currently serves a wider area that includes Burnaby, the North Shore, Delta and the Tri-Cities.
