Rare sighting of bobcat in West Van's Ambleside

A West Vancouver woman wondered which of her neighbours was letting such a large cat roam the neighbourhood — until she realized it was a bobcat.
The typically elusive, nocturnal animal was spotted Friday morning strolling through Venus Yau’s yard in Ambleside.
“It reminded me of a wild animal scene on National Geographic,” Yau said. “I was fascinated — it was as though she was trying to win this staring contest.”
The bobcat slowed her pace as she continued to stare into the window of Yau’s house.
Yau felt privileged to see this Lynx Rufus, which is native to most of North America, but rarely spotted by humans.
“This reminded me of moments we came across a kangaroo in Australia,” Yau said. “I hope people can continue to live in harmony with wildlife.”
