A man, identified as Chinese, spat on a policeman’s face after being apprehended for multiple traffic and drug violations, authorities said on Thursday.

In a desperate bid to escape, Pablo Misador Chu, along with an unidentified woman companion, plowed his Toyota Fortuner through several vehicles on Tayuman St. in Manila about 10:30 in the morning.

Police in the area saw the accident and upon inspecting the vehicle found sachets of suspected crystal meth or shabu.

The Chinese then spat on the face of one of the arresting policemen.

Police said the suspect was apprehended initially by traffic enforcers of the Manila Traffic and Travel Bureau (MPTB) after a number coding violation about 7:30 a.m. at the Reina Regente Street in Binondo.

The arresting traffic officer, Arthur Almojuela, told The Manila Times that the suspect intially refused to cooperate but eventually gave in, providing a picture of his driver’s license on his phone instead of the actual license.

Almojuela said, however, that Chu drove away, forcing MPTB enforcers to give chase, which ended on Tayuman St. corner Abad Santos Avenue.

Chu will be charged for direct assault for spitting at the policeman, among others. JOHN ERIC MENDOZA
