Evo will boost its fleet with an additional 250 vehicles this spring, as a competing car-share service formerly known as Car2Go prepares to leave Vancouver.
The BCAA-created car-sharing company currently boasts a fleet of 1,500 Toyota Prius Hybrids across Vancouver, North Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and satellite sites across the region.
April’s delivery of 250 new vehicles – all of which will also be Toyota Prius hybrids – will bring the fleet up to 1,750, with even more vehicles expected to be announced in the summer.
“Evo is a local company dedicated to this region and we’re here to stay,” said Evo vice-president Tai Silvey in a statement. “Evo is stepping up – we’re investing significantly and doing everything possible to get more Evos on the road and keep expanding to meet growing demand.”
Along with the new hybrid vehicles, upgrades and system enhancements to Evo’s smart phone app will be rolled out in the coming weeks, while the company is in policy talks with the city of Vancouver about further expansion.
Since launching five years ago, the company estimates its fleet has helped replace 13,500 privately owned vehicles. A total of 10,000 trips are made using Evo each day.
Car2Go, which had changed its name to Share Now in late 2019, announced in December 2019 that it would be shuttering North American operations, including in Vancouver. The company’s last day in the city is Feb. 29, 2019.
