A low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, the state-run weather bureau said, as it recorded the coldest morning, so far, in Metro Manila.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin on Tuesday, Pagasa said that at 3 p.m., the LPA was located at 1,025 kilometers east of Mindanao and was expected to enter the country in the next 12-18 hours.
Pagasa said, however, that the weather disturbance may not have a significant effect on any part of the country and had little chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
Earlier in the day, Metro Manila experienced its coldest morning yet as its temperature dropped to 18.5 degrees Celsius at 6:30 a.m. at the Science Garden in Quezon City.
The weather agency said this was the same temperature recorded in Metro Manila last February 1.
These are, so far, the coldest days in the metropolis since the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season started in the last quarter of 2019.
Baguio City also registered its lowest temperature at 10.2 degrees Celsius.
Pagasa is expecting 10°C to 11°C in the City of Pines in the coming days.
Pagasa said the country would continue to experience cooler days until the end of February, when the northeast monsoon or “ hanging amihan” was expected to blow over.
The northeast monsoon or seasonal winds from the northeast is the cold air from China that starts blowing into the country every mid-October. FRANZ LEWIN EMBUDO
