Heart Evangelista brings ‘telemed services’ to Sorsogon

MANILA, Philippines — Actress Heart Evangelista on Tuesday provided telemedicine services for residents in Sorsogon City to provide accessible health care to residents of far-flung areas.

“In a time where health concerns are on the rise, it’s important to give access to healthcare to everyone. In Sorsogon, we started to test a Tele-Med/Tele-Doc where patients can virtually consult a doctor using cellphones or internet connection,” read Evangelista’s caption on Instagram.

“ 📲 It even has BP [blood pressure], ECG [electrocardiogram], temperature, and blood sugar tests that doctors can see in real-time,” it added.

In Sorsogon, we started to test a Tele-Med/Tele-Doc system, where patients can virtually consult a doctor using cellphones or internet connection. 📲 It even has BP, ECG, temperature, and blood sugar tests that doctors can see in real time. ⁣ ⁣ This is so important for people, especially those in far-flung barangays. I hope that in the future, this type of service can be available everywhere for everyone to use. ❤ #SorsogonFirst #MahalKongSorsogon #KadaSorsoganonMagdanon

Evangelista also hoped that the telemedicine services would be available to other areas in the Philippines.

⁣The ECG that Evangelista was referring to measure electrical activity, rate, and regularity of one’s heartbeat, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defined telemedicine as a process where doctors give diagnostics and therapeutic services through communication technologies such as two-way video, e-mail and smartphones.
