President Rodrigo Duterte was the guest of honor during the 86th birthday celebration of Olivia Yanson, the matriarch of the Yanson family, at the L’ Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City recently.
Yanson, also known as OVY, is the co-founder, treasurer and corporate secretary of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), the country’s largest bus transport company.
OVY was in the news lately after her six children figured in an ongoing intra-corporate battle over the management of the family-owned Yanson Group of Bus Companies, the country’s largest bus firm operating across Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
Four of her children were questioning OVY’s stake in the company which she and her late husband Ricardo Yanson Sr. established in 1968.
VTI is the largest company under the Yanson Group which operates more than 4,000 buses nationwide and employs 18,000 individuals who serve 700,000 passengers daily.
In his message, Duterte acknowledged the support of OVY and the whole Yanson family for their unwavering support to the Duterte administration that started during the 2016 presidential election.
Duterte also expressed support to OVY and his son Leo Rey Yanson whose management is being challenged by the Yanson 4.
Other guests in the event were presidential spokesman Sal Panelo, Sen. Bong Go, Sen. Cynthia Villar, Atty. Harry Roque and Sen. Imee Marcos.
Duterte also belted out “Ikaw” and several songs which he dedicated to OVY. The party ended at 4 a.m. on January 24.
The Yanson family usually hosts the president at their place in Talisay City whenever he visits Bacolod.
Duterte also attended the birthday celebration of Leo Rey, the youngest Yanson son of OVY and the incumbent president of VTI at the L’ Fisher Hotel in January 2019.
“My birthday wish is to be loving always. I will continue my charity. I will spend my life in my charity work, through the OVY Foundation,” OVY said earlier.
OVY expressed hope that the intra-corporate dispute will be resolved soon as she called on her children to set aside their differences for the benefit of Ceres and Sugbo bus passengers across the country.
