Makeover: Diagonal back shape style enhances great natural hair

Michelle Heeren, 53, is a consultant and was growing very frustrated with her underwhelming hair style.
Michelle has very healthy, silver coloured hair that is extremely thick and dense. She explained most hairstylists cut it short or into an angular bob but she finds those styles to be shapeless and hard to manage. She had been growing her hair for a few months hoping I could do something with it, and I’m glad she did.
My plan for Michelle is to grow it to a medium length to showcase her hair’s beautiful texture and natural colour.
I shampooed her hair using Oribe Silverati Shampoo and Conditioner to gently cleanse and brighten silver hair. I applied a small amount of Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream to her mid-lengths and ends for intense high-gloss conditioning.
I sectioned her hair into a central vertical parting and cut her hair into a diagonal back shape. This shape is ideal for growing and maintaining length in the back, while framing the face and enhancing her bone structure with soft layers.
I eliminated bulk by weave cutting the interior of the hair and added layers throughout to create movement and texture.
Before styling, I applied a palm-size amount of KMS Styling Foam to her hair and rough-dried it with a blow dryer. I used a medium round brush to create bounce, body and movement to her style, then touched it up with a curling wand to create a slight bend to the ends. To finish, I sprayed OribeFlash Form Finishing Spray to her hair for weightless, buildable texture and definition.
We started with a corrective primer to eliminate any redness in the skin, then used a beauty blender to apply a light weight BB Cream to even out her complexion.
We contoured her hazel-brown eyes with copper-brown eyeshadow and rimmed her lash line with brown waterproof eyeliner.
We brightened under the eyes with concealer, contoured her face with bronzer and added a hint of plum blush to make her cheeks. On her lip, we used a plum tinted lip balm.
