Pedestrian dies after hit by van in a crosswalk in Vancouver

A woman has died and her husband has serious injuries after they were struck by vehicle in a marked crosswalk in Vancouver on Sunday.
Vancouver police say shortly before 5:30 p.m., a Vancouver woman and her husband, both in their 70s, were walking across the crosswalk at Pacific Street and Richards Street when they were struck by a delivery van, as it made a left turn onto Pacific Street.
The woman died, and her husband remains in hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the van, a 37-year-old man from Surrey, remained and is cooperating with police.
The VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses. Anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time of the collision, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
This is the first pedestrian fatality in Vancouver in 2020.
