Are you missing a loved one’s ashes?

Somebody must be, according to Nanaimo Mounties, who are appealing to the public after discovering an ash-filled urn in a local park.

The urn, adorned with two golden wheat stalks, was located by a passerby on Jan. 11 near the Nanaimo Yacht Club at 400 Newcastle Island. It was sitting at the foot of a park bench.

This happens on occasion. In October, Vancouver police publicly sought the owner of an urn filled with ashes found in the area of East Broadway and Kingsway Avenue.

The urn found in Nanaimo has a serial number, but investigators tasked with finding its owner have had little luck, even after providing the number to the director of Nanaimo funeral homes, who indicated the urn did not belong to them.

But it has to belong to someone. If anyone has information on the owner or where the urn originated, please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
