Icy roads caused problems for Vancouver firefighters contending with a two-alarm house fire in Strathcona on Monday night.
The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. at a three-story residence at 719 East Pender Street.
Fire crews had difficulty getting to the site due to the slippery conditions.
A City of Vancouver work crew had to be called in to salt the roads while snow chains were installed on fire trucks.
“All the main roads at this time are clear but our side roads are covered in ice, so we need to carry chains or wear chains on our fire trucks at this time,” said assistant fire chief Kane Morishita.
The home was under renovation and was unoccupied. No injuries were reported.
Morishita said the fire inspector was working to determine the cause of the fire.
