MMDA deploys resources to Batangas

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday sent its disaster and emergency response team to Talisay, Batangas to help residents affected by the explosion of Taal Volcano.
Michael Salalima, concurrent chief of staff of the MMDA Office General Manager and Focal Person for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, said that three military trucks, two firetrucks, three ambulances with a complement of 30 personnel were dispatched.
“[Our team is] bringing also two generators, [personal protective equipment], 10 potable water purifiers among others,” Salalima he said.
MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim earlier placed the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) on blue alert status.
The MMDRRMC is composed of concerned national government agencies and local risk reduction and management councils of 16 cities and lone municipality in Metro Manila.
The state seismology bureau raised alert level 4 over Taal Volcano on Sunday night after the volcano spewed a giant column of steam and ash. JAN ARCILLA
