Makeover: New look for mom to welcome newborn

Kate Meehan, 31, is an elementary school teacher. She was expecting a baby and wanted a new haircut to welcome her newborn.
Kate has very thick and naturally wavy hair. It was feeling unmanageable, and she was looking for a style that would look fun and fresh while still maintaining some length.

I shampooed her hair using Oribe Signature Shampoo and Conditioner, a gentle yet high performance cleanser for all hair types. I applied Oribe Supershine Light, a high gloss leave-in conditioner, to her mid-lengths and end, then sectioned her hair into a central vertical parting.
I then began cutting her hair into a diagonal forward shape. This silhouette is ideal for thick hair types as it distributes the weight of the hair better and maintains a little extra length through the front. I eliminated extra bulk and heaviness by weave cutting the interior portion of the hair, and also incorporated subtle long layers for added movement and softness.
Before styling, I sprayed Oribe Royal Blowout throughout the hair to provide heat protection and to speed up the blow dry time. I blow dried her hair using a paddle brush then finished the style by added soft beach waves using a curling wand.
Before Kate’s hair appointment, we groomed, reshaped and tinted her eyebrows. It’s a great way to frame the face and define the brows.
To create a soft and healthy glowing complexion, we started with a tinted moisturizer. We added bronzer and a hint of pink blush on the apples of her cheeks, then added concealer under the eyes to brighten them.
We dressed her eyes with a shimmer pink cream eyeshadow and defined her lash line with a dark brown waterproof eyeliner. We curled her lashes and coated them with black mascara and finished the look with a pink lip gloss.
