Vancouver Weather: Mainly cloudy, with a wind warning in effect

VANCOUVER, B.C.: Saturday, Jan. 3. Saturday’s weather is expected to start out with showers, but the wet weather should clear up for a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 3 C, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

A wind warning is in effect, with winds gusting up to 70 km/h in some areas. Overnight, expect mainly cloudy skies, with wind and a chance of rain or snow over higher elevations, and a low of 2 C.

Then there is a snowfall warning in effect for Sunday. The agency says the region could see between five and 15 centimetres of snow by Sunday afternoon. Once again, higher elevations such as West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Port Moody, and Coquitlam will see the greatest snow accumulations, while Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster will see wet snow mixed with rain.

On Sunday night, the temperature takes a dip down to – 5 C, and then it’s a frosty mix of sun and cloud on Monday, with a chance of snow and a high of – 2 C and an overnight low of – 11 C. On Tuesday, there’s a good chance of snow and a high of – 6 C., and then snow overnight with more wind and a low of – 8 C.

Today: Showers ending early this morning then a mix of sun and cloud. Wind northwest 30 km/h increasing to 50 gusting to 70 except gusting to 90 near the water late this morning and early this afternoon. Temperature steady near plus 3 C. UV index 1 or low.

Tonight: Cloudy. Rain beginning this evening except snow over higher terrain. Snowfall amount 5 cm over higher terrain. Temperature steady near plus 2 C.

Tomorrow: Periods of rain ending near noon then cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of rain showers or wet flurries. Snow over higher terrain in the morning. Snowfall amount 5 cm over higher terrain. Wind northwest 30 km/h except 60 near the water in the afternoon. High plus 3 C.
