Police watchdog investigates rollover accident in Surrey

Surrey RCMP have called in the Independent Investigations Office to investigate a serious accident on Thursday during an attempted traffic stop.
It happened at 9:30 p.m. on 104 Avenue.
A traffic officer activated his RCMP cruiser’s emergency equipment and attempted to pull over a vehicle that allegedly was involved in a number of traffic violations.
The RCMP say the vehicle failed to stop and went through an intersection near 160 Street before losing control and flipping multiple times.
The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Nobody else was hurt.
The IIO, which probes all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm, is investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions led to the driver’s injuries.
