Highway One near Golden closed in both directions after fatal crash

Highway 1 west of Golden is closed in both directions and there is no detour available following a fatal crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to Cpl. Mike Halskov, of B.C. RCMP Traffic Services, the four-vehicle collision occurred at 2:10 p.m. about 20 kilometres west of Golden.

“Upon arrival, police confirmed that two passenger vehicles and two commercial vehicles were involved in the crash that has killed one person,” Halskov said.

Highway 1 is closed in both directions and there is no detour available according to DriveBC.ca.

Trans Canada East Traffic Services, B.C. Ambulance Service, commercial vehicle and safety enforcement officers, the B.C. Coroners Service and the RCMP collision reconstruction service are investigating this crash. The cause of the collision is not known at this point, however winter driving conditions are being considered as a possible contributing factor.

There is currently a snowfall warning in effect for the East Columbia region with up to 25 centimetres of snow forecast by Wednesday morning.

Motorists can expect the highway to remain closed for a number of hours while the collision is investigated and the highway is made safe for travel.
