If, like us, you can’t remember what your new year’s resolutions are past Feb. 1, yet you also can’t help but make them every year, well, join the club.

But don’t beat yourself up about it — it’s the thought and the intention that counts (for us, anyway).

So again, like us, if you’ve spent the last month eating your body weight in turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gingerbread — and had more than a few glasses of mulled wine, eggnog and Prosecco, too — chances are you’ve got every intention to hit the gym hard this January.

Rebecca Tay checks out five styles to add to your workout bag that should make your new regimen a little more pleasant.

So technically, the Nike Air Max 270 is more of a lifestyle shoe than a gym trainer, but if a shiny new pair of Nikes is what it takes to get your blood pumping, then we say go for it — though take it a little easy: no one wants a sprained ankle this early into the year. We like the vibrant pastel details on this pair and think they’d look pretty sharp with denim, cropped pants, and skirts alike. Oh, and sports leggings and gym shorts, too.

Sport Chek, sportchek.ca | $200

You still can’t beat a good pair of Lululemon leggings, and these ones — the Fast and Free Tight II with 25” inseam — are made from Nulux, one of the company’s lightest-weight, smoothest and quickest-drying fabrics yet. They’re made specifically for running, meaning they won’t rub or stretch out of shape after 5k, and should leave you feeling free to go as fast as the wind can take you.

Everyone needs a good workout buddy: someone (or something) to keep you going when the sweat is really dripping and there’s just five minutes left on the clock. Think of the MEC Core Train Tank as that buddy — airy and breathable so you can keep on pushing yourself without overheating, with an odour-minimizing, antimicrobial treatment so you can work out every day without being able to use laundry as an excuse. Say hello to your new accountability partner.

MEC, mec.ca | $39.95 ($27.97)

If you’re more likely to be hitting the barre, yoga, or Pilates studio than a gym, you might like this lace-up bra by Australian brand Dharma Bums. It features a flattering, square neckline, a pretty dusty rose ‘dusk’ hue, and light to medium support, but its true USP are the criss-crossing straps that will offer an oh-so-elegant back view for anyone behind you in class.

Sweat Society, sweatsociety.ca | $74

Need more than a little kick up the butt to get yourself to the gym? How about a super cool, cropped fleece hoodie — one you can only justify by wearing it to and from the gym (unless you’re Hailey Rhode Bieber — née Baldwin — and live your life in either super glam mini dresses or mega cool streetwear)? Then enter The Super Crop Hoodie by TNA, available in black, white, and ‘dark shadow’ grey.

Aritzia, aritzia.com | $80 ($60)
