A 86-year-old woman suffered a fractured shoulder and her purse stolen during a New Year’s Day attack in West Vancouver.
The robbery happened around 5:10 p.m. near Park Royal Mall.
The woman had just left the mall and was walking westbound along Marine Drive when she was approached from behind by an assailant, who grabbed her purse and shoved her to the ground before running off in an unknown location.
West Vancouver police say the victim was able to flag down a passerby who comforted her until emergency services arrived.
“This is a very unfortunate incident — and a rare occurrence in West Vancouver,” said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy. “To assault a senior like this is despicable … Rest assured that we are working diligently to identify a suspect.”
Items stolen included a cream coloured purse and a wallet containing a bank card and credit card.
