VANCOUVER, B.C.: Thursday, Jan. 2. A rain warning and a storm alert are in effect for Metro Vancouver. Environment and Climate Change Canada says a strong Pacific storm with heavy rain is on the way for this afternoon and Friday for the B.C. coast. Up to 90 millimetres of rain is expected to fall over Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver. Higher terrain may see some snow. Thursday looks chilly with a high of just 5 C while Friday should be around 10 C. The storm is expected to diminish in intensity Friday night but light rain or showers will continue into Saturday.
The agency warns that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
A special weather statement for a storm says high winds and heavy rain will persist through Friday. The exception may be Whistler and the Sea to Sky Highway from Squamish to Whistler which could see significant snowfall.
The weekend weather looks mixed. Saturday is expected to be mainly cloudy with a chance of showers and a high of 7 C. Then the rain returns overnight Saturday and should continue on Sunday, with a high of 7 C. Then the first half of next week will be soggy with rain in the forecast Monday through Wednesday.
