TO protect minors, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto has filed Senate Bill (SB) 1208, an “Act prohibiting the use, possession or access by, or sale or distribution of alcohol and tobacco products including heated tobacco and vapor products to children.”

Under the bill, any person or establishment who commits any of the prohibited acts shall be imprisoned to a maximum of 12 years and fined P500,000.

The senator said alcohol and tobacco products are called “sin products” because they are deemed harmful to society and to individuals who consume them.

Recto stressed that the State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building and shall promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being.
