THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is closely following the reported kidnapping of two Filipinos aboard a Greek-flagged oil tanker in a Cameroon port on Monday.
The DFA said the unidentified Filipinos were among the eight seafarers abducted by suspected pirates.
The Philippine Embassy in Abuja, which has jurisdiction over Cameroon, is coordinating with concerned authorities to ensure the safety of the Filipino seafarers.
The victims were aboard the Happy Lady tanker anchored off Cameroon when the armed men boarded it on December 30.
Aside from the two Filipinos, five Greeks and one Ukrainian were taken.
Nine Filipinos aboard a Norwegian cargo ship owned by J.J. Ugland shipping firm, were reportedly kidnapped in Benin in November 2019.
The DFA also reported the abduction of two Filipino seafarers off Togo in November 2019. Bernadette E. Tamayo
