A total of 2,939 villages in Luzon and Visayas are highly susceptible to landslide as severe tropical storm Ursula entered the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) warned on Tuesday.
“The public is advised to monitor the weather disturbance for possible flooding and rain-induced landslides in identified affected areas,” NDRRMC Executive Director Ricardo Jalad said in a statement.
Jalad said that residents residing in low-lying areas and or near riverbanks should exercise caution and monitor the level of river water “considering that heavy rainfall may cause riverbank erosion, shift of river flow direction, debris flows and artificial damming,” Jalad said.
The NDRRMC is now on blue alert.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has prepared 259,975 food packs from across 17 field offices.
A total of P612 million in non-relief items have also been stored.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is also on alert for possible evacuation of the affected residents.
