You still have a couple days to scramble and buy gifts for under the tree, but most Canadians have shifted to wrapping mode in preparation for Christmas Day on Wednesday.

Prior to the Christmas shopping season, PWC Canada, the financial firm formerly known as PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the average Canadian would spend $1,593 during this holiday season, up 1.9 per cent from 2018.

In its annual Holiday Outlook report, PWC said 25 per cent of survey respondents felt better than last year about the state of their personal finances. And despite recent announcements about household debt-to-income ratio rising, more than 80 per cent planned to use their credit card at some point during the holiday season.

Only 17 per cent (vs. 19 per cent in 2018) were concerned about credit card debt and 21 per cent were not worried about it at all.

What do you think?
