2 policemen wounded in Iloilo blast

TWO policemen were wounded in an explosion in Iloilo on Monday morning, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said at the start of a ceasefire between the government and the communist rebels.

The victims were identified as Pat. Galbe and SSgt. Lindo, members of the 1st Iloilo Mobile Force Company.
Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP officer-in-charge, said the blast from an improvised explosive device (IED) happened in Barangay Simon at 9:20 a.m.
“This is probably the first atrocity that has happened despite the declaration of a unilateral ceasefire on the part of government,” Gamboa told the reporters in a press briefing.
Police are investigating whether the attack was carried out by the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
The ceaefire started at 12 a.m. on December 23 and would end at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2020. DARWIN PESCO
