A plane has crashed on Vancouver Island, near Stewardson Inlet.
According to Maj. Sandra Bourne, spokesperson for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Pacific Region, the plane was bound for Tofino on Saturday afternoon and did not arrive.
Bourne said the plane was not located by dark on Saturday and four planes were dispatched at first light Sunday morning. The crashed plane had an active beacon and it was located near Stewardson Inlet, north of the Hot Springs Cove on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The JRCC dispatched two planes, and the Canadian Coast Guard dispatched two.
The planes are expected to land within the next hour, at which point more information will be available.
This is the second plane crash on or near Vancouver Island in the past 12 days.
On Dec. 10, three people died after a Piper twin-engined plane went down on the north end of Gabriola Island, off Nanaimo.
