12 wounded in Cotabato City explosion

TWELVE persons, including soldiers, were wounded in a grenade explosion near a church in Cotabato City late Sunday, according to the military.
Maj. Arvin Encinas, spokesman for the military’s Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), said the blast happened along Sinsuat Avenue in Cotabato City, 50 meters away from the Notre Dame Cathedral, at about 6 p.m.
Three unidentified suspects aboard a motorcycle tossed the explosive at troops under the Philippine Army’s 5th Special Forces Battalion, who were on duty at the time, said Encinas.
“The troops responded by firing at the suspects who sped away,” Encinas said in his report.
Four unidentified civilians and eight soldiers were injured, said Encinas.
