Domestic trade value, volume up in Jul-Sept

THE total value and volume of domestic trade rose in the third quarter of 2019 from figures recorded in the same period last year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Data from the statistics agency showed that domestic trade value increased by 20.1 percent to P204.53 billion in the July-to-September period from P170.33 billion in the same period last year.
Among traded commodities, machinery and transport equipment led with P62.15 billion, or 30.4 percent of total value. Food and live animals came next with P51.58 billion (25.2 percent) and manufactured goods with P25.94 billion (12.7 percent).
Among the country’s regions, the National Capital Region (NCR) was ranked first with P77.48 billion, or 37.9 percent of total value.
“Western Visayas ranked second with P31.9 billion or 15.6 percent and Eastern Visayas placed third with value of P28.70 billion or 14.0 percent,” the PSA said.
Meanwhile, domestic trade volume in the quarter climbed by 0.8 percent to 5.09 million tons from 5.05 million year-on-year.
The PSA said 99.8 percent of commodities were traded through water (coast-wise) and the rest through air.
Among traded commodities, food and live animals came out on top with 1.19 million tons, or 23.4 percent of total volume. Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials followed with 0.90 million tons (17.7 percent) and manufactured goods with 0.80 million tons (15.7 percent).
“Region-wise, NCR registered the highest quantity of traded commodities of 1.17 million tons or 22.9 percent [of the] total in the third quarter of 2019,” the PSA said.
Central Luzon ranked second with 0.83 million tons (16.4 percent) and Bicol placed third with 0.66 million tons (12.9 percent).
