PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is still the government official with the highest trust rating, according to a recent Pulse Asia survey released on Saturday.
Data from the survey, conducted from December 3 to 8, showed that 83 percent of Filipinos have “big trust” in the President, 10 percent were “undecided”, and 6 percent have “small/no trust.”
This figure is nine points higher than the 74 percent Duterte received in September. His highest approval rating was 88 percent in June 2018.
Duterte, who hails from southern Philippines, received the highest approval rating from respondents in Mindanao, where he earned a score of 98 percent.
The President got an 89 percent trust rating in the Visayas, 78 percent in the National Capital Region (NCR), and 75 percent in Luzon.
Duterte also received an 87 percent approval rating in the survey also conducted by Pulse Asia.

Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo welcomed the development, saying the “stratospheric approval rating is unprecedented.”
“History tells us that no President has passed the midpoint of his presidential term with such a high approval rating. It has always been a downtrend,” Panelo said in a statement, noting that Duterte’s disapproval rating was “reduced to a measly 5 percent.”
“The figures of the survey graphically show how the Filipino people are united in cementing their support to PRRD (President Rodrigo Roa Duterte), and in agreement with the government programs geared toward uplifting the social and economic condition of the masses of our people,” he said.
The Palace official also said the ratings “mirror” the performance of the Duterte administration.
“This latest approval rating is a clear repudiation of the fabricated tale and the false narratives of the haters of the President, including the foreign entities that have joined the fray with blinders in their eyes,” Panelo said.
“It signifies that almost all Filipinos — with more than 8 out of 10 of them — feel that there has been a genuine, meaningful and positive change in almost every aspect of society, as solemnly committed by PRRD (Duterte) during the campaign in 2016,” he said.
Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo received a 53 percent trust rating, which is seven points higher than the 46 percent she received in the previous quarter.
The trust rating of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto 3rd also increased from last quarter’s 66 percent to 78 percent.
Among the top four officials, Cayetano jumped the highest, with his trust rating going up 14 percent to 76 percent.
The survey coincided with the 30th Southeast Asian Games organized by the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc), which Cayetano headed.
Cayetano’s being the most improved in the latest Pulse Asia survey came despite backlash and criticisms he and the Phisgoc got over alleged corruption and incompetence in the country’s hosting of the biennial sporting event. CATHERINE S. VALENTE
