AN application-based motorcycle firm will appeal a decision by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to limit its number of vehicles on the road to 10,000 after accepting two more companies providing similar services.

Angkas released a statement on Saturday informing the public that the LFTRB’s pilot implementation of the extension of Motorcycle (MC) Taxis next year would cut the number of its bikers from 27,000 to 10,000.

“Your everyday heroes in traffic will enter this Christmas season not knowing whether they will have money to feed their families next year,” Angkas said.

LTFRB put a 39,000 cap on registered bikers, with each MC taxi service provider allowed to have 10,000 bikers in Metro Manila and 3,000 in Metro Cebu.

“That’s a compromise to the quality of service you can expect, and a direct blow to over 17,000 Filipino families,” the app-based motorcycle firm said.

It questioned LTFRB’s decision.

Bakit kailangang bawasan at tanggalan ng trabaho ang mga bikers natin (Why is there a need to cut down [on the number of motorcycles] and let our bikers lose their jobs).”

“The traffic in our thoroughfares is getting heavier each day, and there are more and more commuters to serve as time goes by,” it added.

The inter-agency Technical Working Group (TWG) announced on Friday that two new motorcycle providers — JoyRide and Move It — will operate in 2020.

“After careful evaluation, inspection, and validation of the overall operational readiness of the applicants, additional providers– JoyRide and Move It — were chosen to partake in the extension of the MC Taxi pilot implementation,” LTFRB said.

Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It will be part of the extended pilot implementation from Dec. 23, 2019 to March 23, 2020.

After it released its statement, Angkas trended on Twitter with #SaveAngkas. FRANZ LEWIN EMBUDO
