Possible snow over holidays on B.C.'s South Coast

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas on the wet coast? While typically it rains on B.C.’s South Coast over the holidays, meteorologists are forecasting a chance of snow for some parts of the region.
Although it’s unlikely to snow on Christmas Day in Metro Vancouver, there is a chance of flurries on Christmas Eve, and possible snow on Christmas Day for the Fraser Valley and parts of Vancouver Island like Nanaimo, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
The agency says the temperature is expected to drop overnight Monday and Tuesday to near freezing in Vancouver, with a chance of showers or snow flurries both nights.
While any snow could make for a magical Christmas Eve, it’s unlikely to stick around in the Vancouver area.
The agency says on Wednesday, Metro Vancouver can expect 6 C and a 60 per cent chance of showers.
In Abbotsford and Chilliwack, however, there is a 60 per cent chance of showers or snow flurries on Dec. 25, and a high of just 5 C, according to the agency.
Elsewhere, the Christmas forecast looks fairly wet for Vancouver Island, with rain in the forecast in Victoria, the Southern Gulf Islands, and Tofino. Though Nanaimo is forecast to have periods of rain or snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs of 5 C both days.
Of course, the best chance to see snow falling on Christmas on the South Coast is to head to the mountains. Whistler has a 60 per cent chance of snow on Dec. 25, with a high of zero, while Squamish has a chance of snow flurries or rain and 3 C. The North Shore, however, will likely share Vancouver’s forecast of a chance of rain.
