THE “happiest Christmas ever” was how the daughter of one of the victims of the Maguindanao massacre described the announcement of a guilty verdict against its perpetrators on Thursday.
For Jargin Dela Cruz-Malabanan, daughter of slain journalist Gina dela Cruz, the decision was a relief to her.
“Feel na feel po namin ang hustisya [We really feel the justice],” she said.
For 2nd District Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu, however, the decision made him happy but at the same time sad despite the acquittal of Sajid Ampatuan.
The Quezon City court found Datu Andal Unsay Ampatuan, Jr., Zaldy Ampatuan, Anwar Ampatuan, Sr. and others guilty for 57 counts of murder and were sentenced to reclusion perpetua or up to 40 years in prison without parole. DARWIN PESCO
