Jealous man dies as he torches own house in Manila

A man died after he allegedly set his house on fire following a quarrel with his live-in partner in Malate, Manila, on Friday. Fire Officer 1 Carla Bais identified the fatality as Roel Camero, 54, a businessman. A report from the Malate Police Station showed that prior to the blaze, the victim and his partner, Anina Rose Tejas, 30, were heard fighting inside their house. Police said Camero stabbed Tejas with a kitchen knife out of jealousy. Though wounded, Tejas reportedly managed to run outside their house and seek help. She was rushed to Ospital ng Maynila due to stab wounds in the body. Moments after, Camero set their house on fire and locked himself inside the comfort room. The fire started on the second floor of the house located on F. Torres Street corner Espiritu Street in Malate at around 10:30 a.m., according to fire probers. The fire reached second alarm and was declared out at 11:31 a.m., Bais said. The estimated damage of fire was pegged at P50,000, police said. (Erma Edera)
